WOW!

The Legend begins here...

GRAMMY® winning guitarist Peter Frampton's heavily customized 1954 Les Paul Custom is one of the most recognized guitars in rock history, having been featured on the recording and cover of his massive-selling Frampton Comes Alive!

Debuting at 191 on Jan 6th, 1976, it reached #1 on the Billboard 200 April 10, 1976, where it stayed for 10 weeks.   It was the best-selling album of 1976, selling over 6 million copies in the US and becoming one of the best-selling live albums to date, with estimated sales of 11 million worldwide.

Frampton Comes Alive! was voted "Album of the year" in the 1976 Rolling Stone readers poll. It stayed on the chart for 97 weeks and was still No. 14 on Billboard's 1977 year-end album chart.

In 1980, while Frampton was on tour in South America, the guitar was put on a cargo plane in Venezuela, en route to Panama.   The plane crashed right after takeoff tragically killing the all of planes passengers and crew.

Frampton recalls, “…we were all so overcome, because people lost their lives as well as our complete stage of gear. Basically I'm thinking, ‘the guitar is gone,’”.

What Frampton didn't know is that the guitar had survived, and had fallen into the hands of a musician on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, who owned it for many years before a local guitar collector spotted it being worked on in a luthier’s shop and then contacted Frampton.  After some negotiation, the guitar was returned to Frampton in 2012.

In Greek Mythology a phoenix is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or born again. Associated with the Sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of it's predecessor.  According to some sources, the phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion.

The Tom Murphy meticulously recreated replica must have been named 'The Phenix' as a slight play on the Greek myth due the guitar being pulled from the burning wreckage of a tragically downed cargo plane on fire, and somehow finding its way back into the hands of it's Peter Frampton.  Just as Excalibur found its way back to Kind Arthur, this legendary 1954 Black Custom 3 pickup Les Paul found its way back to its true master.

As the Guitar’s name Phenix evokes the ritual rebirth of a bird consecrated through fire or similar to Excalibur the magical sword with powers for a singular man (King Arthur), a Talisman is an inanimate object that is made into a "living source of power" by a magician (Peter Frampton).  When consecrated (meaning to make holy or made to achieve a singular purpose) a Talisman enables a magician to channel divine power and creativity directly into their consciousness.

Don’t believe in guitars as magical Talismans?  Simply listen to Frampton comes alive and listen to his magical use of the Heil Talk box.  The moment that the audience hears his Black 54 Les Paul sound as though it was directly asking them “…Do you Feel Like I Do?”… they in erupt in cheers.   Magic or not magic, I still feel the Goosebumps.

We believe that the story of Peter Frampton’s Phenix is one of Rock & Roll’s greatest manifestations of Talismanic magic, Myth & Legend all rolled into one magical instrument.  So we put together this amazing collection for the super fan who also believes.
